Goals: 7 Top Steps On Goal Setting

By: John E Stone

The following guidelines will help you to set successful goals:

#1 Affirm each goal as a decisive statement: Express your goals positively – ‘Accomplish this method well’ is a much better goal than ‘Don’t make this ridiculous misstep.’

#2 Be precise: Set a precise goal, putting in dates, times and amounts so that you can gauge achievement. If you do this, you will know precisely when you have achieved the goal, and can take thorough satisfaction from having achieved it.

How to stick to your new year resolutions – 10 tips

By: Sam Sander

It’s nearly that time of year again for setting and forgetting your New Year’s resolutions. But so many people fail to keep their new year resolutions just because they can’t get organized.

Here are some tips to help you get organized to achieve your goals in 2010.

1. Get a calendar. A calendar or diary is the most essential tool for getting organized. Find one that works for you, whether it be paper or electronic, and start the year with one in hand. As well as having a master calendar or diary, use post-it notes or daily to-do lists to help you stick to your goals by reminding you to do your daily goal setting tasks.

Dare to Dream Bigger than You Ever Have

By: Diana Long

Are you short-changing yourself? Do you hold back on how big you let yourself dream? Is it time for you to super-size your goals and dreams? You know the adage-life gives us what you ask of it? It’s really true. Most people I know are timid about really “going” for it and have a lot of reasons and excuses as to why they can’t have what they want, even those of us who feel like we are “big thinkers” could turn up the volume of our desires and aim higher and as a result create stunning successes that benefit not only ourselves and our business but truly make the world a better place. I’m curious; if you could tell me right now, what your current big goals and dreams are. Could you describe them to me in glowing, vivid detail? Don’t be shy! Do you believe in yourself and the power of your dreams? Let me share a story with you. (more…)

How to Build and Implement Strategies to Achieve Personal and Professional Goals For Success

By: John Chilton

When someone tells you: “you need to set goals in your life” , you probably cringe and feel like it’s just a motivational phrase. However, the best way to achieve success in your life IS to set attainable goals for yourself. “I’m going to work out 4 times this week instead of 3….”, “I’ll put in a few more hours to get this project finished early….”, “I’ll pay a little extra each month and get it paid off faster…” are all small examples of how you set goals in your personal and professional lives and a lot of the time don’t really notice that you’re doing it.

Every goal needs a plan. Some goals will need less planning than others. You probably won’t need to create a complex strategy for working out one extra day a week, but it does require organizational planning. You’ll have to decide if you’ll go before or after work. Decide whether to shower there or shower after at home. You’ll need to figure out what equipment to bring each day. These are just a few requirements of achieving that particular goal. This is where organizational planning can be used to make the whole process of achieving each goal easier and more importantly more efficient.

Power Boost Your Goals

By: Jenny Flintoft

We’ve all got goals we’re working towards, whether they’re work-based targets, personal development objectives or goals within our personal life. However, often these can feel as if they’re millstones around our necks. Rather than feeling excited, inspired and fired up about achieving them, we can feel as if a goal is something we should be working towards, because that’s the done thing, rather than something we really want to have.
Simply by aligning your goals with POWER can make the difference that changes your goal from a chore to something so compelling, you’re magnetised and fired up towards achieving it!

P: Positive. State your goal in positive terms; something you’re working towards. Often we language our goals negatively, which creates a sense of something we’re running away from, rather than running towards. For example:

Working Smarter – How Stopping Can Get You There Quicker

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

By: Trevor Hill

We can busy for the whole of our waking hours. This is particularly true in professional life when it seems there are not enough hours in the day. While it is important to get things done, it is counter-productive to just bash on regardless.
If you were climbing a mountain – and sometimes work feels just like that! – you would pause sometimes to check your bearings. Are you still heading the right way? Circumstances could have changed since you started the climb – have you taken them into account?

While we can’t reflect on everything that happens, it is critical that we do reflect. Only then can we see what is working well and what we need to do differently.
