It’s 2010 and the US Oil market is now at its highest level since the falls from $147 in July 2008.

Despite the market being at a recent high, at the moment it continues to be a dangerous market to bet against. One must speculate that the appalling winter weather across the Northern Hemisphere might be depleting reserves more than forecast.

There is room to both the upside and also the downside and the markets are very volatile at the moment. This is particularly true around the weekly oil inventory numbers. Even the relatively new long short mutual fund is risky despite appearing to be resistant to market conditions. It’s important for investors to realize that while the long short mutual fund appears to be a wonderful way to invest and safeguard that investment regardless of the market’s ups and downs there is no guarantee in that. The success of any long short mutual fund depends significantly on the stocks that make up that fund as well as the person managing it.

The general conditions of the stock market are described in two ways. One is bear market which indicates the continuous downward movement of the stock market. The other is bull market which indicates the constant increase of the stock market. In other words, a particular share which is decreasing in value is called bearish and which is increasing in value is known as bullish.
